Palaka Plaid - the Hawaiian Cowboy Shirt
These iconic shirts come in many colors and were second skin to the paniolo (Hawaiian Cowboy). They are a sturdy light denim fabric, cool but tough for ranching needs. Ulupalakua Ranch uses the dark navy plaid as their ranch’s shirt. Today this practical fabric palaka is experiencing a resurgence of popularity and wear. Here’s a little replica of the palaka plaid shirt with the Paniolo (cowboy) living on. The green & red Christmas shirt comes with a gold twisted maile lei.
Maui’s famous philanthropist & friend, Mike Lyons, inspired the “i heart Maui” buttons and palaka. He was renowned for passing out these buttons; wearing his palaka shirts with a kukui nut lei, his big smile & hand of friendship.
These shirts come with a "Maui" collar label, contact Penny if you would like a "Hawaii" label instead.
All shirts come with both hanging cord and back magnet for optional display.
These are each hand-made and there will be slight variations in size. The fabrics are also cut randomly so there will be slight pattern variations in the same batch. Each shirt is a work of art, carefully crafted to its best effect.
Disclaimer: These shirts are decorative items only and not meant as a child's toy. Keep away from children under 6 years, as small parts can become a choking hazard. As cute as the tiny ukulele strings are, little fingers can break them.
